MASTER’S LEVEL SUBSTANCE USE CLINICIAN

JOB TITLE: MASTER’S LEVEL SUBSTANCE USE CLINICIAN

REPORTS TO: Clinical Director

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Provide individual and group counseling to clients who suffer from or have been affected by addiction. Advise clients on a range of issues relating to alcoholism, addictions, and mental health. Provide support and prevention options to help clients and families recover from addiction, modify behaviors, and/or improve mental health.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Work with clients to develop individualized action plans focused on mental health, substance use, and co-occurring symptoms with a whole-person health approach.

· Deliver individualized and group sessions weekly.

· Attend weekly individual clinical supervision, group clinical supervision, and staff meetings.

· Collaborate with client’s collateral contacts, the integrated team, and/or any providers working with the clients.

· Provide treatment using evidence-based practices including CBT, motivational interviewing, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, or other person-centered approaches.

· Apply knowledge of milieu therapy in residential settings, substance use modalities, harm reduction approaches, trauma-informed care, whole-person health approaches, and dual diagnosis treatment. A compassionate and empathetic approach is critical for connecting with vulnerable populations.

· Use humor appropriately to build rapport and foster a positive, open therapeutic environment that encourages client engagement.

· Perform other related tasks and duties as assigned by the Clinical Director.

REQUIREMENTS:

· Must have a master’s degree in mental health counseling, social work, or a related discipline.

· Working knowledge of 12-Step Programs.

· Experience working in recovery settings.

· Must be able to demonstrate cultural competence.

· Knowledge of federal, state and local laws governing substance abuse and mental health services.

· Must possess a valid MA driver’s license.

· Must be able to pass CORI and Drug Testing requirements

· Demonstrated understanding of, and committed to adhering to, federal and state policies (42 CFR Part 2, HIPAA).

· Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, & boundaries.

· Demonstrated proficiency in verbal and written communication skills.

· Candidates with lived expertise are encouraged to apply, if in recovery, must have two years of continuous sobriety.

· Personal characteristics of understanding, dedication, empathy and genuineness are essential.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

· Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

· Previous experience working in outpatient substance abuse treatment programs.

· Established relationships with mental health/substance abuse providers in the Greater Boston area.

SCHEDULE: Varies daily, Monday through Friday, NO weekends, NO on-call.
